Exercising and the Deep Limbic System

According to Daniel G. Amen M.D. Physical Exercise is very healing to the deep limbic system. "It releases endorphins that induce a sense of well-being. The deep limbic system has many endorphin receptors. Exercise also increases blood flow throughout the brain, which nourishes it so that it can function properly. Think about what blood flow, and nourishment do for the rest of your body. A body that is constricted or emaciated doesn't feel good. The same is true for the brain. Good blood flow resets the deep limbic system to a healthy level, which in turn favorably affects the person's mood.
People who exercise regularly report a general sense of well-being that those who lead a sedentary lifestyle do not experience. They have increased energy and a healthy appetite, they sleep more soundly and are usually in a better mood.
